Being a little crazy never hurt anyone! As long as you *know* you're crazy.

I can't even begin to tell you how important it is to be able to judge art! You don't have to be a great artist yourself, but you need to know what to look for. So you can take the instruction and not worry at all about what anyone thinks! Besides, the best artists are sometimes those that get "Fs" from their teachers.

I REALLY needed to read this blog. Yes, I am writing a graphic novel. I am crazy to be doing this, and it's not like I haven't successfully written and published in other genres. Freelance journalism has been very good to me over the years, especially online. I tried putting the story idea that's been nagging me for the past six years into a "regular" novel, but the characters seem to resist the efforts. I was always told in creative writing classes "if it don't fit, don't force it." (Yes, that can be construed many ways.) So I am sucking it up. The only one of your suggestions that I haven't done is the illustration classes. Good Lord. I really shudder at the thought of doing that. I earned a F in art in elementary school! I hope the instructors will let me audit the classes. I don't want my graduate school cumulative GPA messed up by a guaranteed F. I suck, I suck, I SUCK at any art except literary!
